WPP invests in Smart Media
One of the world’s largest telecommunication providers, WPP, on Feb. 11th announced that they were investing in the Smart Media Company by purchasing 20% of its shares.

Smart Media is the fourth Vietnamese company to have its shares bought by WPP. In 2008, WPP’s subsidiary, GroupM, bought a number of shares of three subsidiaries of the VAC Company. WPP also has several subsidary companies operating in Vietnam, such as Bates141 and Ogilvy.

The Smart Media Company was established in early 2008 by the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Company, Vietnam Television, VMS-Mobifone, the VNPost Company and the GoldSun Company.

“In 2009, Smart Media will introduce new services, especially those for advertisement, on-line payment and online-shopping. The cooperation of WPP will help the company to adapt the latest telecommunication technologies from around the world, and improve our services in Vietnam”, said Nguyen Anh Tuan, Smart Media’s CEO.
